about

This (initially a 4-song) EP was originally set to be released on a Seattle-based label in spring of 2021. Although this project did not materialize, the tracks were made available, for a few months, on various streaming platforms. In February 2024, the songs were remixed and remastered and this album is now finally available on bandcamp for streaming and download.

In addition to the 4 tracks, this remastered version of the EP contains two more tunes, "Cinnamon Stars Painted Blue", which was composed around the same time, but was used as a contribution to the Pandemic Christmas compilation, an album put together by another Seattle indie label - Green Monkey Records.
The last song, "Stamps From Other Realms", is a more recent composition, being recorded around 2022 and gathering digital dust on a "shelf" of music files.

The front and back covers were made using found materials. Thorn pages from (I think) 1960's comics mixed with black & white architectural/design magazines from the 70's and 80's, all mashed up in a surreal pop landscape.

"Peak playing with the things that you aren’t supposed to do with music.

From Fragments Of Endeavour started life as an EP, but awaiting release for three years has seen its expansion with two songs that round out the (now) album much more perfectly. Dolores Mondo Stash are potentially the most genre-free band out there, constantly plucking at so many styles, creating something so self-conflicting yet perfectly balanced for wide appeal.

The overall structures to each song are jarring; layers that sound like they were thrown around the mix at random, yet breaking up the short, repetitive melodies to highlight the timings that at times feel like are fighting against one another.

Soft instrumentation provide a laid back, playful side of the sound, which somehow allows the album to still be a relaxing listen. Whether the track being jazzy, funky, lo-fi electronica or verging more classical, there’s a consistently smooth vibe carried throughout the runtime. But then you get the “noise” staples; sounds that you’d expect from Industrial if you’d never actually listened to the genre before, degraded tape loop effects and the harsh synth closing of Dark Spume…

As a whole the album feels as natural as it does broken; I found myself lost amongst the sounds on every listen to the point where there were only 3 sections that I could consistently recognise which track was playing. Despite the lengths varying from 1 to 6 minutes, they all feel the perfect length, all just playing out naturally.

Which brings me onto the bit the band can quote. Dolores Mondo Stash showcase how music is meant to be made; making the music they want to make and allowing their ideas to form naturally. Nothing feels forced about From Fragments Of Endeavour, and equally every song was allowed the freedom to grow as it needed to, or not to."
